Changes in Intrepid Ibex, Ubuntu 8.10
I installed Ubuntu Intrepid Ibex Alpha 6 (64bit) today. Installation was pretty easy, networking and screen resolution was configured already. Only had to enable Hardware Drivers for my nvidia graphics card. Even Flash worked in Firefox without any hurdles (it used to be an issue in 64bit versions).
The GRUB screen now shows “Last successful boot”, similar to what Windows shows after a crash.
From Ubuntu wiki:
On each successful boot, Intrepid will retain a copy of your running kernel and make it available from the boot loader as a “Last successful boot” option. This makes it possible for old kernel packages to be safely auto-removed by the package manager, instead of being kept indefinitely.
You can also have an Encrypted Private Directory using the ecryptfs-utils package
More info at UbuntuWiki
Crontab shows a menu that allows you to edit it in either vi, ed or nano
Nautilus now supports Tabs, Now I don’t need to open many windows to copy/paste files quickly.
Other stuff I noticed, Not sure if they’re New to Ubuntu.
Synaptics now shows the download size of packages and allows you to change the colors of packages according to status.
Ubuntu now shows breif system info when you log into your Intrepid Ibex machine via SSH.

And Firefox for some reason shows an about:rights page o_O
Bugs I noticed:
Network Manager seems to be missing in System > Administration > Network
User Switer Applet isn’t working

Due to an unresolved bug in the Linux kernel included in Alpha 6, it should not be used on Intel ethernet hardware handled by the e1000e driver (Intel GigE). Doing so may render your network hardware permanently inoperable.
NOTE: This is still an alpha release. Do not install it on production machines. The final stable version will be released on October 30th, 2008.
